چکیده

In this essay, we assume that negative mass objects can exist in the extragalactic space and analyze the consequences of their microlensing on light from distant Active Galactic Nuclei. We find that such events have very similar features to some observed Gamma Ray Bursts and use recent satellite data to set an upper bound to the amount of negative mass in the universe. This essay received an “Honorable Mention” from the Gravity Research Foundation, 1998 Ed.

In search for natural wormholes

We have investigated 631 time profiles of gamma ray bursts from the BATSE database searching for observable signatures produced by microlensing events related to natural wormholes. The results of this first search of topologically nontrivial objects in the Universe can be used to constrain their number and mass. Gamma Ray Bursts: Some Facts and Ideas

Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) are the most explosive events after the big bang: their energy output corresponds to a sizeable fraction of a solar mass entirely converted into energy in a few seconds. Although many questions about their progenitors remain to be answered, it is likely that they are generated by a newly formed and fast spinning black hole. The colossal power characterizing GRBs is carri...

Gravitationally Lensed Gamma-Ray Bursts as Probes of Dark Compact Objects

If dark matter in the form of compact objects comprises a large fraction of the mass of the universe, then gravitational lensing effects on gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are expected. We utilize BATSE and Ulysses data to search for lenses of different mass ranges, which cause lensing in the milli, pico, and femto regimes. Null results are used to set weak limits on the cosmological abundance of compa...

The Expected Redshift Distribution of Gamma-ray Bursts

We predict the redshift distribution of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) assuming that they trace the cosmic star formation history. We find that a fraction ∼> 50% of all GRBs on the sky originate at a redshift z ∼> 5, even though the fraction of the total stellar mass formed by z ∼ 5 is only ∼ 15%. These two fractions are significantly different because they involve different cosmological factors when ...

Gamma-Ray Bursts and Topology of the Universe

In this letter we propose a physical explanation for recently reported correlations between pairs of close and antipodal gamma-ray bursts from publicly available BATSE catalogue. Our model is based on the cosmological scenario in which bursters are located at cosmological distances of order of 0.5–2 Gpc. Observed distribution of gamma-ray bursts strongly suports this assumption. If so gamma-ray...
